Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Nautilus Spa Work?

First the horse’s legs and feet are thoroughly cleaned. The horse is then fitted with a manure diaper to make sure that there is no contamination to the water. The horse is led into the spa and the doors are then sealed. The technician chooses either hot or cold water. The spa is then filled from the appropriate tank. The water in each tank is combined with Epson salts and salt from the Dead Sea. The spa is filled with water to the desired height. We then aerate the water in the spa with a multi speed blower system. The cold therapy typically lasts about 16 minutes and the hot therapy could last as long as 30 minutes. When the therapy is complete, the water is drained out of the spa back into the tanks (where it completes the triple filtering process). Once the spa is drained, the horse exits the spa through the front door.

How will my horse benefit from the Nautilus Spa?

From a preventive maintenance standpoint, implementing the Nautilus spa into your day to day training protocols will minimize the likelihood of normal wear and tear escalating to a more serious injury. Routinely, we alternate hot and cold therapies. Cold therapy is most commonly used to reduce inflammation while hot therapy is an excellent therapy to stimulate blood flow and loosen sore and stiff muscles as the aeration gently massages the soft tissues and muscles.

From a post injury standpoint, typically we are dealing with inflammation. When a horse sustains an injury, the injured tissue releases chemicals that attract white blood cells to the area. These cells remove damaged tissue and foreign material including bacteria. This process causes the release of additional chemicals, such as cytokines and prostaglandins, resulting in the creation of heat and painful inflammation. Excessive inflammation may cause further tissue breakdown and in-crease the risk of tearing.

Can I control the temperature of the water?

Both hot and cold water temperatures are maintained thermostatically. The cold water temperature range is typically between 36 and 39 degrees. The hot water temperature is maintained at 104 degrees. The ability to utilize either hot or cold water therapy is what makes the Nautilus spa unique and a superior product to its competition.

How much salt is in the spa?

36 lbs of Epson salt and 36 lbs of Dead Sea Salt

How does the salt help the horse?

Salt acts like a poultice drawing out inflammation and infection. The pure mineral compound for Epson salts are magnesium and sulfate, both readily absorbed through the skin. Magnesium plays a number of roles in the body including regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes reducing inflammation and helping muscle and nerve functions. It is important for combatting stress and fluid retention and calming the nervous system. Sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients and flush toxins. Salt from the dead sea includes potassium, calcium chloride and bromides. Potassium energizes the body and is a crucial mineral to replenish following intense exercise. Calcium is effective at preventing water retention, increasing circulation and strengthening bones. Bromides act to ease muscle stiffness and relax muscles. Sodium is important for the lymphatic fluid balance. This in turn is important for immune system function. The waters from the Dead Sea are unique in that they contain 27% of various salts as compared to 3% in normal sea water. Further, while sodium accounts for approximately 80% of the salt content of normal sea water, it comprises much less of the salt total in water from the Dead Sea.

What kind of warranty accompanies the spa?

The spa comes with a two year warranty (except for electrical components as to which a one year warranty is provided).

How does the water stay clean?

Do I need a special

area for the spa?

it?

The spa would be delivered to the location requested by the buyer. It would then be assembled by a member of our staff. In addition, we offer full training on the use and maintenance of the spa as well as ongoing support.

How does this spa differ from the other spas on the market?

In addition, its warranty life is half of the Nautilus.
